Moving into a new rental property can be an exciting time, but it can also be a bit overwhelming. To help make the process as smooth as possible, we’ve created a moving into a rental property checklist that covers everything you need to know.
Before Moving In:
- Schedule a move-in inspection: Before you move in, we’ll conduct an inspection to document the condition of the property. This will help ensure that you’re not held responsible for any pre-existing damage when you move out.
- Review the lease agreement: Make sure you read and understand the lease agreement before you sign it. If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to ask us.
- Set up utilities: Contact the utility companies to set up service for water, electricity, gas, and any other utilities you’ll need.
- Purchase renters insurance: Renters insurance is not required, but we strongly recommend it to protect your personal belongings.
- Change your address: Make sure to update your address with the post office, your bank, and any other relevant organizations.
After Moving In:
- Inspect the property: Take a thorough look around the property and document any damage or issues that you notice.
- Report any issues: If you notice any issues or damage that were not present during the move-in inspection, report them to us as soon as possible.
- Get to know the property: Familiarize yourself with the location of important features like the circuit breaker, water shutoff valve, and smoke detectors.
- Take care of the property: Keep the property clean and well-maintained, and avoid any actions that could cause damage.
At Roberts Real Estate and Property Management, we’re committed to helping our tenants have a positive rental experience. We hope that this checklist will help make your move-in process as smooth as possible. If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to contact us.
